Notice from Canal & River Trust – Rochdale Canal Closure

The Canal & River Trust in partnership with Calderdale Council are carrying out improvement works to canal walls along the Rochdale Canal between Station Road, Luddendenfoot and Lock 8 in Hebden Bridge.

The works commenced on Monday 9th January 2017 and are expected to be complete by the end of March 2017.

These works will provide a significant improvement to the wash walls and is the first step to improve the towpath between Sowerby Bridge and Todmorden as part of the third party funded CCAG2 project, which is scheduled to get underway in summer 2017.

Initially, the pound between Locks 3/4 and Lock 5 will be de-watered and Canal & River Trust teams will work their way upstream, locally de-watering pounds as and when required. During this time the towpath will be closed around the working areas to safely exclude the public from an active construction site.

The planned dates for these works are as follows, however please be aware that as the works progress, these dates may be brought forward or delayed.
