CityConnect funds cycle training for schools

You never forget how to ride a bike!

Remember how you felt the first time you rode a bike? If you were anything like me, you were sat on your big brother’s old BMX from the 80’s, given a push to get you started and told to hold on tight, whilst furiously peddling to keep your balance.

And, after a few wobbles, it felt great!

With the wind blowing through your hair, the world was your oyster. You could get over to your mates house without a lift from mum or dad, or down to the sweet shop within minutes, freedom at last! Hours were spent playing out with friends, building ramps, learning new tricks and just having fun.We want all children to have fond memories of cycling and believe every child should have the opportunity to learn to ride. With support from Cycle Leeds, that’s exactly what we’re doing.

_C0A6669 (Small)School children of all ages are taking part in cycle activities funded by CityConnect, including balance bike training, steering round obstacle courses and learning about bike maintenance. We’ve even taken some of the year 5 and 6 children out to test ride completed parts of the Cycle Superhighway! Our aim is to show them that with the right cycle routes and training, getting around by bike is safe, easy and FUN!

Check out what Carol Brier a teacher from Stanningley Primary School had to say:

“I want to say a BIG thank you for our bike balance experience. Our children really enjoyed it and they were talking about it all day today!”

A huge well done to Castleton Primary School, Stanningley Primary School, Barkerend Primary School, Thornbury Primary School and Christ Church Upper Armley Primary School for all taking part in the CityConnect cycle training scheme.

Why not get involved and help us show the children of your school how fun cycling can be! Contact the team today for more information.
