Walking and Cycling Support for Business

We believe that businesses should offer a working environment where colleagues can incorporate sustainable and active travel into their working day. This creates a healthier and happier workforce which can reduce absenteeism and save companies money, whilst also contributing to a greener West Yorkshire.

At West Yorkshire Combined Authority, one of our aims is to encourage more people to travel by walking, cycling or wheeling. We’ve built high quality cycle infrastructure, upgraded canal towpaths, and we are continuing to improve accessibility across West Yorkshire to ensure cycling and walking are accessible means of travel. We also offer support through engagement initiatives such as cycle training, business and school support, and behaviour change campaigns.

The typical working day has changed and so has the idea of using the car for all work-related journeys. We’re not asking people to ditch the car all together. Instead, we want people to be able choose how they commute, how they travel during the working day, and how they conduct meetings. By offering flexibility and giving colleagues a choice, you’re giving employees more autonomy in their working lives and creating a greener, healthier West Yorkshire.

Our Walking and Cycling Support for Business grant can help businesses promote active travel by providing funds to invest in new facilities to make walking and cycling more accessible to employees. Please download our grant and accreditation forms for more details on what funding is available and how your business could benefit.
