Ambitious Infrastructure
2019 marks five years since our work began. During that time we’ve overseen £60 million of investment in cycling and walking schemes across our region. Here’s the journey so far.
People across the region are now able to access new, high quality cycling and walking routes, including Bradford’s Canal Road Cycleway, Leeds’s City Centre Cycle Superhighway, the Castleford to Wakefield Greenway, Scarborough Bridge, York and, last but not least, our flagship scheme - the award-winning 23km Bradford Leeds Cycle Superhighway, which connects two of Yorkshire’s major cities with a route segregated from traffic.
Importantly, we know our investment in infrastructure is enabling more people to cycle - 61% of people who use the Bradford Leeds Cycle Superhighway say their confidence has increased as a result.
Elsewhere, communities across Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees and Leeds have benefitted from our canal towpath upgrades, providing missing links in cycling and walking infrastructure and helping open up access to some of the region’s best countryside.
